Tomato grower

Robert van Marrewijk

From west to east

My wife Cynthia and I started our business on 1 December 1987: we grow tomatoes. We can now reflect on more than 25 years of experience in the sector. You could say that horticulture is part of my DNA: my father, grandfather and great grandfather were all growers. We come from the west of the Netherlands and first had a company in Bleiswijk before we moved east to Berlikum. We have 4.4 ha of greenhouses and live on site.

A glorious moment

In mid-December the growing season starts when the young tomato plants arrive. At this stage they measure about 20 cm. The ripe tomatoes are picked from mid-March until early November. The first time we start harvesting again is one of the glorious moments of the season. It is tense time waiting to see if three months of hard work have paid off and produced high quality tomatoes. After all, we all put a great deal of time and effort into creating the best possible cultivation conditions for the tomatoes.
