Tomato grower

Louise Bakker

At tomato nursery KBB Holland, the third generation is now at the helm. Louise Bakker has been in daily charge of the 17.6-hectare company in Steenbergen since 2024, following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather.

Louise: 'Our goal is to grow delicious and high-quality vine tomatoes for our customers and consumers. In doing so, we have an eye for food safety and sustainability. For example, we aim to use organic crop protection as much as possible and we use a CHP (Combined Heat and Power) that produces energy in the form of electricity. The heat released in this process is used to heat the greenhouse and the energy generated can supply electricity to some 12,000 households daily. We use the CO2 that is released in the greenhouse to promote the growth of the tomato plants.' As an approved training company, KBB Holland sees training and guiding young people as an important task. In this way, too, the company is doing its bit for society.
